On April 9th, Pope Francis released Gaudete et Exsultate, an "apostolic exhortation," which is a type of document directed to the Christian faithful in his role as Pope, usually focused on encouraging us in some part of the Christian life.  Taken from the end of Christ's Beatitudes ("rejoice and be glad" Mt. 5:12), the letter is focused on the call to holiness in today's world.  Pope Francis says it clearly at the outset:  My modest goal is to repropose the call to holiness in a practical way for our own time, with all its risks, challenges and opportunities. For the Lord has chosen each one of us “to be holy and blameless before him in love” (Eph 1:4).
