The Social Justice Commission meets on the second Monday of most months. At the December 2018 meeting, we discerned what areas we would focus on in 2019. Those were racism and poverty (primarily local poverty). We decided to work with Faith in Indiana St. Joseph County, which is affiliated with the statewide organization. Its purpose is to be an educational and advocacy group that promotes justice and opportunity in the local community.

At the January meeting, we discussed the 2018 pastoral letter of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops entitled, “Open Wide Our Hearts.” Over the next few bulletins, we will share some of our observations concerning the letter.

It is the purpose of the SJC to educate ourselves and the parish concerning social justice issues and to share with you opportunities to be engaged in these issues. Stay tuned.
