We are a lovely and unique parish. We are arguably the most diverse parish in the diocese. We recognize diversity as a divine gift to be treasured. Therefore, celebrating our diversity is part of our mission.
Our Sunday masses are always a celebration of diversity, love, and friendship. We have liturgical ministers from every continent. Our lectors do not all have to speak English in the same way or with an American accent. We recognize that there isn't one but many varieties of English (American, British, Nigerian, Australian, Kenyan, etc.). We ensure that everyone feels welcome and at home in the parish. We allow space for everyone to be their authentic self. The story of the first Pentecost event reminds us of the need to cultivate unity in diversity.
The coming of the Holy Spirit did not reduce the multitude of languages in Jerusalem to one. While that would have also been amazing, what amazed those who were present at the Pentecost event was hearing the good news proclaimed in their own language.
