Last Sunday was the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. The two Masses on Sunday ended with a brief procession with the Blessed Sacrament inside the Church. But for the rain, the original plan was a more elaborate procession around the neighborhood.
The purpose of the Eucharistic procession is not only to publicly celebrate and proclaim our faith in the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. It is also an expression of one essential truth about the Eucharist. The Eucharist is our food as missionaries.
The Eucharist supplies us the strength we need to go forth into the world after Mass and proclaim the good news of Christ. According to Saint John Paul II, the mission of the Church which is a continuity of the mission of Christ, draws spiritual energy from communion with his body and blood.
