Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
// Romans 12:2
Here we are in the natural season of Summer, the Liturgical season of Ordinary Time (Growing Time, for our children in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program). Life is blossoming all around us: trees full of vivacious green leaves, flowers bursting with color, baby birds hatching, and insects of all kinds (those we enjoy and those we'd rather keep our distance from) flutter and crawl about.
How is the Lord wanting to cultivate your heart during this season? Where is new life and renewal waiting to burst forth in your life? We are constantly being invited to live according to the Kingdom of God, where new life reigns, and avoid being conformed to the patterns of this fallen world. One key way of doing this is by continually inviting the Holy Spirit to renew and transform our minds.
What does this look like practically? Maybe it's praying for the grace to cut out the habit of gossip, or to cut out negative thought patterns, or even cut out relationships that are leading us into the near occasion of sin. Maybe it means intentionally setting aside time to regularly encounter the mercy of God in the Sacrament of Confession or (re)committing to daily prayer.
Take 5 minutes today to ask the Holy Spirit to show you what area of your life needs renewal.
